Lockpick Solver: Picking Locks in Gothic 1 Remake
A lock in Gothic 1 Remake consists of several plates – usually four to seven – each with one pin. When you move a plate, other plates move with it: in the same or in the opposite direction. The lock opens once every pin sits in the middle. The Lockpick Solver works out the order in which to move the plates.
How to use the Lockpick Solver
- Count the plates. Count the plates in your lock and set that number in the tool. The bottom row is P1; count upwards from there.
- Transfer positions. Tap the hole that matches the pin on each plate. After checking the links, copy the positions as they stand now.
- Mark the links. Move a plate in the game. Under “Links”, use its row to mark which other plates move with it: “Same” or “Opp.” The column identifies the plate that follows.
- Crack it. Press "Crack the lock" and replay the moves step by step at the lock.
Example: Scatty’s lock in three moves
These diagrams use the five plates and links from Scatty’s chest. The starting positions are chosen for practice.
Your lock may be in a different position. Always copy your current positions and check the links at your skill level. These three moves only apply to this example.
1 · Copy the starting positions
Set five plates. From bottom to top: P1 = −1, P2 = 0, P3 = +1, P4 = −1, P5 = −2. The centre is 0.
2 · Enter the links
The row is the plate you move; the column is the plate that follows. P1 moves P4 the same way; P2 moves P5 the same way; P3 moves P5 the opposite way. P4 moves P2 the same way, and P3 and P5 the opposite way. P5 only moves itself.
3 · Follow the moves in order
Press “Crack the lock”. For this example: P1 left once, P5 left once, P3 right once. Directions refer to the movement of the plate. All pins then sit at 0.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a click sequence from the internet not work for me?
A move sequence only fits the starting positions and links entered. Copy your current positions and check which plates actually move together at your skill level. Then calculate the moves again.
What do “Same” and “Opposite” mean?
Same: the coupled plate moves in the same direction. Opposite: it moves in the opposite direction. To find out which plates are coupled, move one plate in the game and watch the others.
Why does a coupling not react for me?
With a higher lockpicking skill, some links can disappear. Strike out any cells that do not react in your game. Copy the current positions and calculate the move sequence again.
Learning lockpicking: teachers and costs
Why does my lockpick break?
Moving against an edge strains the lockpick and can break it. The solver avoids those moves for the positions and links you enter. Follow the displayed order.
Do I have to find out the couplings myself?
Not always. The Atlas already knows the couplings for 342 chests. Load the solution from the chest list and only enter your starting position.
Where do I get lockpicks?
Lockpicks are sold by Alberto, Cipher, Dexter, Fisk and 9 more.
Where do I learn lockpicking?
Lockpicking is taught by Wedge and Fingers. At higher levels couplings drop out and the lock gets easier.
