Internet TV compared to Regular TV

A lot of people have discovered the benefits of internet TV. Most of them watch online TV to view an episode that they missed. Some on the other hand, do so to repeat an episode they liked on TV. Whatever the reason may be internet TV is clearly becoming more and more popular every year. However, a lot of people still prefer regular TV over internet TV as of December 2007 in the United States. Statistics show that ABC is the most watched channel on the internet with a 50% viewing rate, followed by NBC, CBS and Fox.

The ability to watch past episodes of various shows is probably the greatest attraction that internet TV offers. With internet TV, you can keep up with the storyline of your favorite shows. In fact, more than 10% of those with internet connections have watched full episodes of their favorite shows online. However, only a small part of that percentage watch online TV regularly. Most only do so occasionally since regular TV is still the most popular choice. Also, internet TV allows people to view programs that air in other countries unlike regular TV, which probably adds to its popularity. Customers also have access to more than a thousand shows unlike regular TV which only includes a hundred or so and requires you to pay more if you wish to add more programs to your subscription. With internet TV, you can also download your favorite shows and movies so you can view them over and over again on your PC by just paying a one-time fee (no monthly charges) which probably led to the increase of people who prefer internet TV.

Though regular TV is still highly preferred, more and more people are switching to internet TV because it does not require monthly payments. Customers no longer have to pay a monthly cable subscription unlike with regular TV. In internet TV, you can view thousands of shows worldwide by just paying a small one-time amount. Also, you are not required to buy additional; equipment for your PC or install programs just to watch TV since an internet connection will do. A lot of people are starting to prefer internet TV over regular TV also because of the short commercials. With internet TV, commercials usually last for only 20 seconds as compared to regular TV. Thus, your viewing experience need not be prolonged by long, boring commercials. A regular 30-minute episode may take less time to finish in internet TV. The convenience of watching TV while on the go also adds to the allure of internet TV. Now, people can watch TV wherever they may be as long as there is an internet connection available. They can watch TV on mobile devices that are internet-capable such as mobile phones, music players and game consoles.

It is important to note, however, that internet TV may have a poorer picture quality as compared to regular TV which probably helped retain its popularity. Also, those who usually prefer to watch online TV over regular TV are those with high speed internet connections such as DSL and broadband.
