Alcohol and Drug Detoxification
Alcohol and drug detoxification is not about the medical process alone. Instead, it is also a product of the patient’s determination and mental resolve to get out of this mess, and the continued support and love that is extended to the patient by his/her family members and friends. It is a complicated and drawn out process, and it is imperative that the patient and his/her family persists with the treatment methods until the person completely relieves himself/herself from the clutches of addiction. Discontinuing the Detox procedures prematurely or being irregular in treatments may result in the person returning to drug and alcohol abuse yet again, which should be avoided at any cost.
The detoxification programs are decided based on the patient’s mental and physical state, the extent of his/her addiction, age etc. In other words, the detoxification programs are not standard. It varies from patient to patient depending on his/her condition and is usually laid down by the doctor after diagnosing the patient in detail and studying his/her past medical history including previous addiction to drugs/alcohol if there is any. In that sense, it can be argued that different Alcohol Detox centers follow different methods/treatments.
Here, it should be understood that detox centers are not the final word for alcohol/drug rehabilitation. But it is only the first step, in removing the traces of drugs and alcohol from the patient’s system, and must ideally be followed up with a proper and balanced lifestyle, balanced diet, and counseling and other support as it may be required.
